CONTRIBUTION
A dedicated space for spontaneous dance and ritual to emerge
It's our FINAL Sunday!
See you tonight for an extra hour
from 7-9pm at
Lupa Studio
2400 N 2nd St #207
Minneapolis, MN 55414
quick synopsis:
CONTRIBUTION is for dancers and "non-dancers" alike, curious to explore the question, "what could emerge if we committed to dancing together consistently?"
We meet for one hour on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and for two hours on Sundays (5 hrs/wk), for 6 weeks.
Jan 5th - Feb 16th.
This is for people with a love or a yearning for dance who crave more spaces to express it; for people curious to explore the communal, spiritual and political purpose of spontaneous dance in a shared container.
This is as much about the medicine of movement as it is about the powerful act of showing up consistently, even when it's inconvenient. In an individualistic society that promotes drop-ins and come-when-you-can/no-worries-if-not, committing to a consistent schedule is a radical act of prioritizing community over convenience.
We can't dance together alone. Consistency and familiarity builds trust, and allows us to grow past our resistances and see what's on the other side.
more details below
What is CONTRIBUTION? -A dedicated space for spontaneous dance and ritual to emerge. -What is spontaneous dance? -“Spontaneous dance” describes ordinary people, with or without formal training, gathering to groove and move in a carefree, unstructured way, where the goal is simply to have fun, connect, and lose themselves in the music. *Read the blog entitled Is It True We're Not Dancing Together the Way We Used To? to learn more about what we mean by spontaneous dance -Thursday-Sunday for 6 consecutive weeks (5 hours per week), in person. -CONTRIBUTION will change and grow as needed throughout the 6 weeks, based on what comes up in council on our longer meet ups on Sundays. -There will be no technological component, no group chat, no email chain, no session reminders, etc. You are expected to manage your own schedule and commitment. *Please use this page if you need to confirm times/locations. -If the weather is bad please *come back to this page to check the status. *this is a private link, not reachable by navigating the website. you must click the link or type in the URL
What is the purpose? -Informal, communal dance was once a part of the average persons’ social life. Over the past several decades, dance has largely been replaced by niche dance formats and specialized events. -While these newer waves of dancing are amazing in their own ways, this gap leaves those who aren't involved thirsty for opportunities to experience a sense of belonging through movement. *check out the blog to learn more -Christina and Daniel have spent this past year researching and discussing this gap, and the intersections of dance, cultural movements, storytelling, ceremony, and ritual. We've discovered that people are most likely to put themselves in movement spaces when socio-political circumstances are rough and there is nothing else to do but turn towards one another and dance while in community with others. -CONTRIBUTION is a way to make space for us to imagine a new way of gathering through dance, especially in these times of political uncertainty. -We seek to answer the question, “what could emerge if we committed to dancing together consistently?” **This is as much about the medicine of movement as it is about the powerful act of showing up consistently, even when it's inconvenient. -CONTRIBUTION is an experiment, a council, and a chance for us to name and give each other what we long for through movement.
Who is it for? -Dancers and “non-dancers” alike -People who have a love or a yearning for dance and crave more spaces to express it -People who are curious to explore the communal, spiritual and political purpose of spontaneous dance via experimentation, practice and council.
How does it work? -Our first CONTRIBUTION will be to meet each other, chat, and create our first playlist. -We will create the playlist together in person. Each person will write down the names of songs and put them in a bowl, and we will pull them out and create an hour-long playlist in that exact order. -Then we will dance to that same playlist the following Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each session will have an opening and closing. -When we meet on Sundays for an extra hour, we will use that time to reflect on the week and create a new playlist for the upcoming week. -Rinse and repeat for 6 weeks !
Why so many consecutive days?? -By showing up 4 days in a row, we build trust and momentum as a group. Your presence is essential to fostering this shared process. -In an individualistic society that promotes drop-ins and come-when-you-can/no-worries-if-not, committing to a consistent schedule is a radical act of prioritizing community over convenience. -Showing up isn’t always easy, but each time you do, this container grows stronger. We can't dance together alone. -A consistent practice makes room for distractions, boredom, and insecurities to rise and fall, helping us grow past our resistances and see what's on the other side. -Repeating the same playlist creates familiarity, allowing us to dive deeper into exploration with each session.

What is the expected commitment? -Ideally, you are showing up every day for this container! -Commitment, repetition, and sacrifice are a major component of CONTRIBUTION *check out the blog to learn more -Your presence is EVERYTHING. By prioritizing this practice, you are contributing to a radical movement (hence the name!) that counteracts our societal norms of coming-and-going-as-you-please. -Life happens, so if you miss one, it’s no big deal! Don’t let that deter you from joining. -This is NOT a drop-in situation. Part of the work is showing up consecutively to allow for something beyond the moment to take shape. -If you, or a friend, would like to join but cannot commit to the full 6 weeks, you can sign up for one week (or a few)! More below.
Does it cost money? -We are not charging money for CONTRIBUTION. -However, we will be asking for donations to cover the cost of the space! -We will be collecting donations each Sunday when we meet for an extra hour. -Suggested donations are $10-$40 per week.
