The Dance Circle Project
You belong in the dance circle!

Ahhh, the dreaded dance circle.

You know the one - where everyone's circled up, and one by one, someone jumps into the middle and shows off their coolest moves. And at some point, you're expected to jump in too.

Inside, you’re begging for a nuclear bomb to go off.
Or the power to go out.
Or the floor to swallow you whole.
Anything to END THIS NIGHTMARE.

This was me.
And I’ve been taking dance classes since kindergarten.
I knew how to perform. But the moment it wasn't choreographed, I felt exposed. Like everyone would finally see that I didn’t belong with the "real" dancers.

Because learning steps is one thing.
But moving to your own beat? That's the real edge.

I spent years unlearning perfectionism and getting comfortable in my own body -
discovering my own unique, joyful, imperfect movement patterns.
And once I did?
I was ready to dance with people! Not just ready, hungry for it.

But when I looked around, it was like the floor had cleared.

Where do people go to dance spontaneously these days?
We’re living in a post-lockdown, social media-shaped world,
where there's music playing but nobody’s really letting themselves feel moved.
The dance floors are empty. The parties feel stiff.
And I couldn’t help but wonder:
What happened to dancing for the joy of it?
Why are we so scared to be seen dancing freely?
What would it take to bring that back?
I’ve been obsessed with this question for six years now,
-What would it take to bring back dancing freely?-

And eventually I figured it out! At least for myself.
I found a way to dance without shame, without fear,
without needing to be “good.”

And now I help other people do the same.
Not with steps, but with support.
“Having this space has been a huge stress relief in my life. There is one class we had where I couldn't stop laughing! I was so giddy for some reason!”
"I was in NY last week and the hotel I was in happened to have a dance party in the lobby one night. I went down by myself because I had to dance! I was so grateful [for these classes] and I felt so encouraged, I danced in a new way that I never have before!"
"[Christina's classes] have helped me move through embarrassment and anxiety with grace, let frustrations roll off me, make friends, and beat my distaste for physical activity."
Working with “non-dancers” gave me my answer.

Turns out, we all carry the same shame.
The same fear of being judged.
The same craving to feel free in our bodies.

Trained dancers in all styles. Those who've never set foot in a studio.
And everyone in between.

My solution? Bridge the gap.
Put us all in the same room.
So we can build a world where dancing freely isn't scary.
